Japan

I recently came back from japan, about a week before the earthquake. I absolutely loved japan and feel really terrible about what they had to go through. I wanted to share some polaroids I took there:

Prom!!!

Last weekend I got the chance to go to another Rachel Antonoff show. The theme this time was prom and it was held at LaGuardia high school. The gym was decorated like a classic prom and reminded me of the virgin suicides prom scene, with a disco ball hanging from the basketball hoop, and a band playing (only The Like is too cool to play at a real high school prom). The tables were filled with twinkies and candy necklaces and the dance floor was filled with dancing prom-goers (models).
And the clothes were gorgeous, which is no surprise. There was a mixture of old-fashioned plaid jackets and skirts, raincoats and big glasses, and frilly dresses with silky open backs and tights with girly prints.

I got a polaroid camera for christmas and I loooooove it. here are a couple I took at the show:

the small town life

So in my film class at school we were watching Shadow of a Doubt, a Hitchcock film noir. We were discussing Hitchcock's infatuation with the simple suburban family life and how he picked apart something so average and familiar, and made it into something frightening. In Shadow of a Doubt, an average Californian girl feels empty and that her family has no soul. Her wish that her uncle comes to visit the family come true, yet it backfires when she starts becoming suspicious that he is someone that the police are after.
But how does this relate to fashion? I've noticed a similar infatuation with the same simple family life in fashion. There is something so mysterious about a life that seems so regular and so real. There is a feeling that there must be something behind that, something being hidden. Obviously not always an evil uncle like in Shadow of a Doubt, but even just a little glint of mystery.

Nanette Lepore

So I haven't written on my blog in a while!!! And I've been meaning to do a post about the fashion show I went to back in September. I was invited to go to the Nanette Lepore fashion show through a friend and I had an amazing time. First off, I have to say that I was freaking out just a little bit. I was walking up to the show when I saw Andre Leon Talley, towering over me surrounded by paparazzi. He walked by like a true diva, and I wish I had said something to him, but sadly didn't. And then, to my disbelief, I saw Anna Wintour! Oversized glasses and all, accompanied by her entourage, I couldn't let the chance slip me by, so I called out her name. She turned, waved, said hi to me, and kept walking. I almost died. That is probably the craziest luck I have ever had! That moment is probably the highlight of fashion weeks for me.
Anyways, the fashion show.
I got to go backstage, and took some photos for you guys there, but the runway photos didn't work out so well so I got them off of style.com.

A model (but not just any model) Hyoni Kang getting her makeup done. She is such a great model, and always is full of life, and it was really cool for me to get to see her.

Beautiful dress hanging, ready for a model to slip into.

Another dress hanging. I love the sorbet color and the pleats.

List of the models in their outfits.

Craziness before the show.

I love this outfit. It's a very 40's or 50's style, and I love it paired with a matching sweater. The color goes really well with the models skin tone and the whole outfit is pulled off really nicely.

I absolutely love this dress. It's so youthful and colorful, and the model looks happy to be wearing it. I have always loved orange and pinks together, and this is such a good use of the colors.
This is the dress that was hanging in a backstage photo. I really like how it hangs on her and the neckline makes it original. The dress wouldn't have been as cool and classic if it had had a swooping neckline, or a v-neck for example. It definitely has some Audrey Hepburn class to it.

Cool, chic, relaxed, and a splash of color. I love it.

I really like this. With all of the color in the show, this one is very simple, but still different.

S The show was amazing, and is always fun to go to.
